It’s no secret that more people today are struggling to make ends meet – not so much for the basics of food, clothing and shelter – but rather to pay for private school tuition, extra curricular activities, and medical bills. It’s all about maximizing the quality of life. The other dynamic at play in this new world is a changing economy. Our society has become overwhelmed with information that gives us unprecedented choices, which confounds advertisers who are wrestling with where to put their money. Billboards? TV? Cable? Radio? Music downloads? Videos? This creates a business opportunity for each of us!
Enter the new economy of “relationship marketing”. Are you more likely to believe in a product because it was (a) advertised on TV, or (b) referred to you by a trusted friend? Most people say (b), and that’s why our new economy is becoming much more multidimensional. And that’s why there is also a very real opportunity for average people like you and me to profit significantly!
Let me give you a couple of quick examples. About a year ago, I noticed that Ron Blue, the founder of Kingdom Advisors, and his wife were involved in selling health food products. I certainly understood the need for those kinds of products, but why would a highly successful financial expert feel the need to get involved and take away from his valuable and limited time? Now I think I may know the answer.
About a year ago, a friend of mine from Indianapolis mentioned that he had begun drinking a super juice beverage that had really helped his energy level and joint aches. As a runner, I have had my own battles against those same impediments, so I asked him to send me a bottle. It worked! As a result, my wife, Libby, and I kept ordering the super juice for our family. More and more companies are tapping into relationship marketing because it is less expensive and much more effective than the traditional “top down” approach. Consider these examples:
EBay and Craig’s list. Got something that you don’t need that somebody else might want? Forget the garage sale. Just get a digital camera and create your own ad and display it on the web! What a great country.
So, think outside the box. There is opportunity to earn extra cash without changing your lifestyle by entering the new economy. It’s good for you, good for your purchasers and, in my opinion, adds value to the texture of our culture and free enterprise system.
