I have a bone to pick with the financial industry, a big one. Are you tired of the stock market rollercoaster, but need more investment growth than what can be typically found in a bank instrument such as a savings account, CDs, or a money market account? Do you feel like your financial advisor is just asking you to choose your poison? Bite your nails and hold on, or enjoy the safety of a guaranteed return and watch what little interest you receive get gobbled up by inflation. For example, have you seen the rise in gas and food prices, lately? Well, I am tired of what seems to pass as financial advice by self-proclaimed financial gurus and many financial professionals who refer to themselves as financial planners, because, you see, there actually is an alternative to the volatility of the stock market and the ridiculously low yields of the bank instruments.

What’s the answer? How about investments that may offer a high single digit return to a double digit return, with no stock market risk! “Yeah, right, no such thing,” many of you are thinking. Well, in reality there are literally hundreds of such investments available to average investors just like you, available sometimes with as little as a $2,500 minimum investment. This category of investments is referred to as “alternative investments,” precisely because they offer an “alternative” to the stock market and the bank instruments.

These investments can be good for retirees looking for income, or the younger investor looking for diversification. The actual business models include almost any type of business such as:

• Brand name restaurants, drug stores, and other retail chains.
• New or old office buildings, warehouses, and strip shopping centers.
• Credit card debt, and even oil & gas leases.
• Large bulldozers and earth moving equipment.
• Display shelves at large retail stores, offshore oil rigs, even jet engines on commercial aircraft.

The list is endless. So, why have you not heard about alternative investments before? Probably because the financial advisor you work with either isn’t licensed to sell them, or the company he or she works for – or both. And the money that the financial media is focused on – you guessed it – the stock market and the banks!
